6/13: Puy de Naouri

Your hike from the Col de Vence to Puy de Naouri offers a scenic journey on a path that winds through limestone plateaus, wildflower meadows, and pine forests. As you ascend toward the Puy de Naouri, the landscape gradually opens up to reveal sweeping vistas of the Mediterranean coastline, with views to the Esterel and beyond. The path, though occasionally rocky and uneven, will reward you with breathtaking 360-degree views at the summit. It’s a moderate hike, ideal for nature lovers looking to connect with the raw, timeless charm of the French Riviera’s high country.

The Puy de Naouri is located in the Alpes-Maritimes, part of the Pre-Alps of the Côte d'Azur. The peak itself stands at 1,024 meters, providing expansive views of the surrounding area, including the Mediterranean coast and the valleys below.
The region around the Puy de Naouri has been inhabited since ancient times. In medieval times, the mountain was likely used by local communities for defense during conflicts, as its height and rugged terrain would have made it difficult to access.

6/13: Tour des Baous

Your bike ride from the Col de Vence showcases the diverse landscapes of the Alpes-Maritimes, and takes you through several charming perched villages. You’ll first ride past the town of Coursegoules, known for its Medieval architecture and 13th century church. A descent and a picturesque mountain ridge will then take you to the perched village of Bouyon with its traditional stone houses dating back to the Middle Ages. From there, you’ll descend towards Gattières via the towns of Le Broc and Carros Village as you make your way on quiet countryside roads back to the Château Saint Martin.

Saint-Jeannet is a charming medieval village perched on the foothills of the Baou de Saint-Jeannet, a dramatic limestone mountain that dominates the landscape. The village was home to many artists, and was featured in the film "To Catch a Thief."
Your ride begins at the summit of the Col de Vence, which is just above your accommodations. The scenic mountain pass with its summit at 963 meters offers lovely views of the surrounding hills and the Mediterranean coast.

6/14: Plateau de Saint Barnabé

Your 6 kilometer hike on the Plateau de Saint-Barnabé offers a delightful journey on quiet and peaceful paths teaming with wildflowers. With only 100 meters of elevation gain, the hike is accessible to everyone. The plateau has long been a site of religious significance, with pilgrimages dating back to medieval times. Devotees would travel here to honor Saint Barnabé, the region’s patron saint, at a small chapel dedicated to him. We’ll pass by the chapel early on in our hike, and an oratory at the midpoint.

There are many varieties of wildflowers on the Plateau de Saint Barnabé, including the common hawthorn, pictured above. You'll also find lavender, wild poppies, rock rose, thyme, and marigolds adding bright colours to the landscape.
Situated in a peaceful and picturesque spot along the GR51, this wayside shrine marks a place where pilgrims and hikers alike pause to reflect and appreciate the surrounding landscape of mountains and wildflowers.
