Calpe Spain Cycling Retreat
Ride Like a Pro in Calpe
Escape to the sun-drenched Costa Blanca for an unforgettable cycling retreat in Calpe, Spain where many UCI World Tour cycling teams do their pre-season training. Beat the winter blues on the classic climbs and routes of the pros with Mike Cotty of The Col Collective and multiple British medalist Ross Crook. Calpe, Spain Retreat
Cycling Levels Explained
Level 1 rides are on the easiest routes in your tour location and are suitable for cyclists of all levels. The terrain is generally flat, rolling or there are some shorter climbs. Usually Level 1 rides are along the coast or inland in the valleys. 20 km – 60 km / Flat – 400 meters of climbing
Level 2 rides cover distances that take most cyclists 2-4 hours, and involve moderate climbs. Although they may start at the coast, they tend to veer inland to the hills. 40 km – 70 km / 300 – 700 meters of climbing
Level 3 rides are challenging and suitable for experienced cyclists who are accustomed to long distances and difficult climbs (5 km – 20 km climbs). Routes may include several mountain passes. 70 km – 120 km / 500 – 1500 meters of climbing
Level 4 rides are suitable for avid and/or competitive cyclists who are used to doing challenging rides of 4 to 6+ hours with significant climbing. Level 4 rides often include several mountain passes in one ride, as well as Hors Catégorie cols. 90 km – 160+ km / 1500 – 3500 meters climbing
Your Guides
Our Calpe Cycling Retreat will be hosted by Michael Cotty and Ross Crook – accomplished athletes with many years of experience guiding and coaching in Europe and the U.K.
Michael Cotty
As founder of The Col Collective, Mike has made a career out of riding, filming and telling the story of epic rides and mountains across Europe. You may also know him as a presenter for the Wahoo On Location series, where Calpe was featured in 2025. Mike is an accomplished athlete known for endurance challenges such as The Road to Mont Blanc – a 1000 km nonstop challenge across the Dolomites, Italian Alps and Swiss Alps. He was also an Haute Route Road Captain, stage winner in the Dolomites, and one of the few to successfully complete the Alps, Pyrenees and Dolomites events the same year, earning 3rd place in the triple crown challenge. Mike is looking forward to sharing the beauty of the Costa Blanca region with our guests this January.
Ross Crook
Ross is a longtime competitive cyclist, and still competes in Masters events across a variety of disciplines. He has been Scottish Champion at both running and cycling. In June 2025, he became British Champion at the masters track champs, and in 2026, he became the British Vice-Champion. He has toured across Europe and spends much of the winter riding in the Spanish mountains. Ross is an advocate for cycling's positive impact on society and started a business 13 years ago teaching children how to explore Edinburgh and beyond safely…..and how to do wheelies too! He is excited to join us in one of his favorite winter cycling destinations this January (and entertain us with the occasional wheelie)!
