Tour of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat

Welcome to your tour of the beautiful Cap Ferrat peninsula, nestled in the heart of the Côte d’Azur. You’ll find more information about the history of Cap Ferrat below, as well as a link to any photos taken during your excursion.

History

Cap Ferrat has a fascinating history that dates back to ancient times. Originally inhabited by the Ligurians, it became significant during the Roman era, as evidence of Roman villas and ruins can be found in the area. In the 19th century, Cap Ferrat transformed into a fashionable retreat for the European elite, attracting artists, writers, and aristocrats who were drawn to its natural beauty and mild climate. The construction of luxurious villas and hotels, like the famed Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild in 1912, marked this golden age of development. Today, Cap Ferrat remains a symbol of luxury and elegance, treasured for its breathtaking views and historical significance.

Your walk will take you on a beautiful winding path along the rugged rocky shores of the peninsula, which was once a customs patrol route. You’ll pass the Cap Ferrat lighthouse, built in 1867 to guide ships navigating the hazardous coastal waters of the Mediterranean. Today, the Cap Ferrat lighthouse not only serves as a vital navigational aid but also stands as a historic landmark offering breathtaking views.
